Six members of a family were found hanging from the ceiling of an unoccupied flat in Ahmedabad city on Friday, police said in what is believed to be a suicide. The dead include four children in the age group of seven to 12.

Police said the bodies of two brothers – Amrish Patel (42) and Gaurang Patel (40) – were found hanging in the empty flat in Vatva GIDC locality.

The house was owned by the Patels. The four children belong to both the brothers.

Cops suspect the two brothers might have laced the children’s food with sedatives before hanging them from the ceiling.

The bodies of the two men were found in the drawing room, while that of two girls – Kirti (9) and Sanvi (7) – in the kitchen. The two 12-year-old boys- Mayur and Dhruv- were found hanging in the bedroom. All of them were found hanging from the ceiling, police said.

Police said the Patel brothers lived in different areas of the city and on June 17 they left their homes for an outing with their children.

When they failed to return, their wives went in search of them and knocked on the unoccupied flat but since no one responded, they sought police’s help.

The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post- mortem and further probe is underway.
