New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is no longer a member of the Lok Sabha. He has been disqualified as MP from Kerala’s Wayanad parliamentary seat. Meanwhile, on Saturday, addressing a press conference, Rahul Gandhi made a statement about Veer Savarkar, which has raised the tension between Congress and Uddhav Thackeray. Meanwhile, NDTV report said, “Thackeray has announced that he would skip the Congress’s dinner meet in Delhi.” Former Maharashtra Chief Minister had warned of a rift in the Opposition alliance in Maharashtra if Mr. Gandhi did not “stop insulting our God”.
Maharashtra former CM said, “Veer Savarkar is our God, and any disrespect towards him will not be tolerated. We are prepared to fight, but insulting our Gods is not something we will tolerate,” the Shiv Sena (UBT) chief said.
“I want to tell Rahul Gandhi that we have come together, that’s right, we have come together to save democracy and constitution in this country. But do not make any statements that will create fissures,” he added.
This is Mr. Thackeray’s second warning to Mr. Gandhi over his comments on VD Savarkar, one of the BJP’s biggest icons. I want to tell Rahul Gandhi that we walked together at your Bharat Jodo Yatra as it was necessary to save the democracy. But we will not tolerate the insult of Savarkar. He had to face tortures beyond our imaginations in the jail for 14 years.”
Uddhav added, “We have established the alliance between Uddhav faction, Congress and NCP to protect the democracy and we are required to work unitedly. If, Rahul Gandhi is deliberately provoked and we waste our time for the same, the existence of democracy will come to an end.”
Uddhav Thackeray faction leader Sanjay Raut also said over the comment by Rahul Gandhi that Veer Savarkar is a matter of reverence for us and the country. The punishment of 14 years imprisonment at Andaman is not easy. The people of Maharashtra can give a befitting reply to such remarks. We are with you but Veer Savarkar is our inspiration.
