People suffering from high inflation will get one more blow on 1st April and the people will have to pay excess money over essential medicines. From April 1 essential medicines including painkillers and antibiotics will be increased. Government has shown its preparedness to give its consent for price hike to pharmaceutical companies according to change in Wholesale Price Index (WPI).
12.12% price hike in medicines
It will prove a big blow to common people battling inflation, as India’s drug price regulator, the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) said on Monday that according to proposed change in Wholesale Price Index (WPI) prices will increase by 12.12%. So, prices can be raised by 12.12% on the basis of 2022. It may be noted that the pharmaceutical companies are demanding for price hike for medicines.
Prices for 900 medicines to rise
Paracetamol, antibiotics like Amoxicillin and other anti-infectives, and painkillers are set to become costlier by more than 12%. This is said to be the highest annual increase on record in the prices of these medicines. The price of 900 medicines including painkillers, antibiotics, anti-infective and medicines related to heart disease may be increased by 12%.
