Gandhinagar: During Pandemic there was a sharp increase in the number of micro landing apps. Most of them are Chinese Apps. Now these apps compromise with the data and privacy of the people. They misuse the data under the pretext of offering micro loans by getting control over all mobile apps and data access.
932 complaints registered since March, 2022 till date
Gujarat Cyber Police has taken stern action against them. According to the information available by police sources, 932 complaints have been registered since March, 2022 till date. Data of the consumers has been compromised through Chinese and Nepali apps. To curb the crime, Gujarat Cyber Crime has banned 419 Chinese loan apps. Police has also identified such 885 loan apps. An action would be taken against remaining other Chinese apps very shortly. Police disclosed that the apps are being hosted on servers situated in Hong Kong and other cities of China.
What is the modus operandi
Cyber criminals send messages to the people, asking them to download the app, in case of requirement of loan. To avail the loan, mobile users have to give their consent to access of their contacts, photos, videos and other digital data. They scan the photos and messages of mobile users. Once they are assured of using personal data of the person to withdraw money, they proceeds further with loan application.
Loan at rate of 15-20 percent
Generally, the loan amount begins with an amount of Rs. 15,000 and the loan is offered at the interest rate of 15-20 percent. In case of failure to return the loan on time the loan amount gets increased to Rs.30,000. They also starts taking strong actions for recovery of the amount.
