Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel today released the Action plan for Climate Change Center of Excellence of Gujarat University. Under the action plan Gujarat University will undertake mainly five various functions. Main points include in the action plan are the campus fully equipped with solar energy, waste management, weather station, Industry-Academic partnership, and inclusion of Climate Change subject in the curriculum.
Under this action plan, waste management operations will be carried out along with increasing the use of solar energy in university buildings and colleges as per sustainable campus.
The action plan also includes creation of industry-academia partnerships and accommodating climate change subject in the curriculum in all faculties of the university.
It was decided to set up a Climate Change Center of Excellence in one of the government universities of the state in the 2021-22 budget with a goal to prepare youth against the challenges of climate change and conduct the research and studies with the inspiration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. An amount of Rs.1.5 crore was also allocated for the purpose.
Gujarat University has been selected for the Climate Change Center of Excellence after scrutiny of the proposals invited from all the Government Universities of the state. A separate study program on climate change has been run by this university for last 10 years.
