Ahmedabad: There is a good news for Mango lovers. The King of fruits ‘Mango’ has arrived in local fruit markets of Ahmedabad along with other cities of Gujarat, but with at hiked prices due to very limited input. Sweet mangoes may taste bitter to the consumers due to its soaring price.
Before the arrival of Kesar brand mango, mangoes of other varieties from different states including Hafus mango from Ratnagiri and Kerala is already available in the local market. Traders say the season has started late to its normal period by 15 to 20 days this year. Instead of 15 to 20% of such mangoes this year only 10% stock has been arrived. In March, after the receipt of Dasheri mangoes from Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, later from Gujarat and UP, the prices will be reduced, it is believed.
Traders believe this year there will be reduction in the price on account of the possibility of 25-30 % rise in the production. Currently, Hafus mango from Kerela is sold at Rs. 1,000/- per dozen.
