Mumbai Indians registered their name in the history book on Sunday by becoming the first champions of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on on Sunday. Under the captaincy of Harman Preet Kaur, MI knocked down Delhi Capitals by seven wickets in a thriller to cap a memorable first edition of the long-awaited T20 tournament .NET Sciver – Brunt was declared Player of the Match while Hayley Mathews was given Player of the Series.
Batting first after winning the toss Delhi Capitals Women put on 131 runs for 9 wickets in stipulated 20 overs. Except Lanning (35), the captain, Shikha Pandey (27), and Radha Yadav (unbeaten 27) no player could contribute more in the terms of score. At one stage DC lost their 9 wickets in just 79 runs. But, Shikha Pandey and Radha Yadav took the score to 131, with partnership of unbeaten 52 runs in just 24 balls. Wong and Hayley Mathews took each 3 – 3 wickets of Delhi Capitals.
MI achieved the target of 132 for victory in 19.3 overs and put on 134 for 3 with unbeaten 60 runs of Net Sciver – Brunt. Harman Preet Kaur registered 37 runs before she became the victim of a beautiful throw from Alice Capsey.
