A strong earthquake of 6.6 magnitude on Richter scale was experienced across north India last night at around 10.15 pm. The reports of the strong earthquake first came in from Delhi-NCR. After few minutes the primary reports of experiencing strong tremors came in from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, Chandigarh, Jammu-Kashmir and Uttarakhand. People scared due to earthquake came out of their houses for safety. However, there were no primary reports of any damage to property or loss of life. Delhi-NCR also experienced moderate tremors of earthquake in January, 2023 earlier.
According to information available the epicenter of 6.6 magnitude earthquake was at the depth of 35 km below ground level. The reports said, the jolts of strong earthquake were also felt in, addition to Afghanistan, Pakistan, Kazakhstan and China. Earlier the intensity of the earthquake was reported to be 7.7 on Richter scale. But later it was mentioned as an earthquake of 5.5 magnitude. According to reports received subsequently, the intensity of the earthquake was 6.6 on Richter scale.
People of Delhi-NCR and the states mentioned above felt the tremors from 10 seconds to one-one and half minutes. The people, worried and panicked by the strong earthquake, rushed out of their homes and flats for safety. The people, along with their kids, residing in high rise flats were also seen coming down quickly to ground to save their lives. Everybody was panicked as the duration of the tremors was long compared to earlier earthquakes. Everybody was seen on their mobiles enquiring about the status and well being of their other family members and relatives.
