Uttar Pradesh court has sentenced Atiq Ahmed to life imprisonment in 2006 Umesh Pal abduction case. The court has fined ordered him a fine of Rs.5,000 also. Pronouncing the judgement the court convicted Atiq SAhmed, Dinesh Pasi and Khan Saulat Hanif. Whereas the court has acquitted all other seven accused including Ashraf, a brother of Atiq Ahmed.
Earlier, the MP/MLA court at Prayagraj, convicted a mafia don – turned politician Atiq Ahmed in and three others in case of kidnapping of lawyer Umesh Pal, the main witness in the killing of Bahujan Samaj Party lawmaker Raju Pal.
After pronouncing Atiq Ahmad a convict, the court sentenced him life imprisonment. Umesh Pal was shot dead in Prayagraj on February 24. Atiq and a former corporator Dinesh Pasi were convicted under Section 364 A (Kidnapping a person and puting life of the person in danger of being murdered) of IPC among others.

In 2005 BSP MLA Raju Pal was shot dead. Umesh Pal was prime witness in this case. Atiq and his aides allegedly abducted him in 2006 and forced to give a statement in their favor in the court. A charge sheet was filed in the case where Atiq and his aides were made accused in the case.
Atiq Ahmed reached Naini Jail of Prayagraj from Sabarmati Jail of Ahmedabad yesterday evening.
